Young Carers Action Day takes place on March 12, 2025.
Young carers dedicate much of their time and energy to supporting family members. Without proper breaks, this responsibility can become overwhelming. That’s why this year’s theme is “Give Me a Break.”
We provide young carers with breaks by taking on their caring role temporarily and organising outings and trips, and this year we are asking all education professionals to give their support too.
Many young carers struggle to balance their responsibilities at home with their schoolwork, often feeling overwhelmed. By understanding these pressures and helping them manage their workload, education professionals can give young carers the break they need to succeed in school and pursue further and higher education.
If you are a teacher or work in a school and would like to learn how to support young carers, take a look at the Young Carers in Schools programme, run in partnership by Carers Trust and The Children’s Society. This initiative provides best practices, helpful tools—including lesson plans and training—and guidance to improve outcomes for young carers in education.
