What We Deliver and Why

© Crossroads Care

Being an unpaid carer can be exhausting and emotionally draining and often carers forget that they need to care for themselves. Over the last 40+ years we have been working tirelessly for these carers to support their well-being. We try to keep them in touch with their communities and reduce feelings of isolation.

L. cares full time for her elderly husband who has dementia. Providing a care worker enables her to attend doctor’s appointments, but she feels quite isolated. Mixing with other unpaid carers on boat trips and outings encourages friendships, and it is these small things that give something to look forward to and memories to reflect on.

By providing replacement care for their loved ones, with well-trained care workers, unpaid carers can access breaks and activities and even go back to work. We recently hosted a young carer “meet the author day”, as well as drumming workshops, overnight stays to visit family and passes to attractions and trampoline parks.

When someone in the family has an ongoing health issue, young carers can often miss out. We try to make sure they get out and about and know how special they are.

Whenever we can, we use our caravans in Butlin’s in Minehead to give short breaks to tired carers in receipt of Crossroads care. Some carers are just desperate to have a few hours ‘me-time’, one just wanted to do some gardening.  Taking carers to see Oxford United supported a different group, “I’m not really a carer, I just look after my mum with dementia,” said one man.

Our Projects

All the projects we have previously delivered have been reliant on the donations of others.

  • The Digital Support Project gave away Amazon Fire tablets to carers,
  • The Time for Me Project delivered activities and breaks,
  • The Let’s Go Project got children with care needs and young carers out having fun,
  • The Welfare Check Project making sure people had food and supplies and could access GP appointments,
  • The Befriending Project gave remote calls to make sure vulnerable people have someone human contact during lock down.

We are still fundraising for people with care needs and their carers, can you help fund one of our current projects?

  • The Flexi-carer Fund supports carers in adaptable ways from direct care to supplying transport and light property maintenance,
  • The Children’s Fund gives families a break (incorporating Let’s Go),
  • The Palliative Care Fund provides free care when funding should not be an issue,
  • The Caravan Fund is for our caravans at Butlin’s Minehead, for the use of caring families needing a break,
  • General Funds to use as needed.

Can you help by fundraising for unpaid carers?

Running the Oxford Half, the Blenheim fun run or abseiling off church towers are all choices made by some of our fundraisers, but you don’t need to be an action hero to support us!

Could you have a coffee morning in support of unpaid carers or a cake sale at school? Choosing us as your charity of choice at your work fundraiser is choosing to support unpaid carers.

If you would like some promotional material to help, please email care@oxfordshirecrossroads.org.uk

Can You Help us with a Grant or Donation?

We have been able to make a significant impact in the Carer Support area, but we are aware that there is still much more to be done. The funds we receive assist us to continue to provide these services and to shape what we deliver to meet the changing needs of unpaid carers in the future.

Individual and corporate donations, fundraising and grants from public, private and third sector organisations are vital for us to be able to continue to deliver much needed services for unpaid carers and their communities in Oxfordshire, West Berkshire and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.

We hope you can help.

How to Donate

Donations can be made online, by text, or by post. If you like what we do, please support us. All our extra support for carers of all ages are funded by charitable donations. Just £27.50 can provide a much needed break for a tired carer.  £100 can provide a day out for a child with care needs.

No donation is too small. Thank you for choosing Crossroads Care.

Easy Fundraising

It is easy (and free for you) to choose us on the Easy Fundraising website – when you shop with them, the stores give to us (at no cost to you).
