Support for Carers

About Caring
A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who cannot cope without their support. This could be due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction.
Anyone can find themselves becoming a carer, for example:
- a man living with his wife who becomes ill,
- an elderly woman caring for her husband living with dementia,
- or a young child whose sister has learning disabilities.
Caring Challenges
Although caring for someone can be rewarding and have many positive aspects, it can also be challenging and leave carers needing support. Carers Trust have a comprehensive list of some of the ways carers may need support here.
Supporting Carers
If you are caring for someone, please see the box links below for the ways we can help you. Our care worker provision is on a not-for-profit basis except the Early Intervention Service in RBWM and Carers Breaks in Newbury which is free. Other services are heavily subsidised through fundraising.
Whatever your needs as a carer, please get in touch.
Carers of people in receipt of our care (including the Carers Fund Programme)
If you are caring for someone receiving Crossroads Care, you are eligible to apply for a Carers Grant of up to £300 through our association with Carers Trust. This Carers Fund Programme grant could be for household items, breaks, transport costs, skills, and courses. If you would like a copy of the form and a full list of what it can and cannot cover please contact Ruth in our Oxford office. There is a one-hour administrative fee for us to upload this for you.
We fundraise to organise practical support for Carers of people in receipt of Crossroads Care as much as we can. You can see things we have done on our FUNDRAISING AND GRANTS page. If you would like to access current projects, please contact us on our main email.
